Sending a post card to friends or family? Go to a vintage store at the city or town you are visiting and look for vintage post cards. The best way to find these stores is through Yelp, they rank them and usually have tons of comments to help you narrow your selection. Vintage post cards usually have great photography and interesting fonts. It’s surprising how many were not written or ever mailed at all but you can also send one that already has a message written in the back.
Part of sustainable aesthetics is also about taking care of the mind body and soul in a healthy and sustainable way. Through my years whenever trying myriads of exercise routines nothing ever seemed to stick. What I found to be the most helpful and best way to get some type of work out was incorporating some easy things into my life that I could do almost mindlessly and were enjoyable. A few examples below:
Walking has been a huge part of my life since moving to a city were using a private vehicle is not the best way to get around. During the Spring and Summer taking time for daily walks has been one of the best ways to get in light exercise and help clear my mind and refresh my body for the next upcoming days. I suggest light walking daily and long walks once or twice a week to get in the most benefits, I like Sundays best for long walks.
Running, this is a no brainer step up from walking, it gets your blood pumping and can be a huge stress reliever. What I liked to do when I re-started my running routine was try to run for 3-5 minutes at the end of my 20 minute daily walks. These may seem like very short amounts of time, but practicing these daily is the key to start experiencing results such as more mental clarity and more energy throughout the day.
Stretching, now I did say this list was going to be very simple! A huge stretch when you wake up can really help get rid of that sleepy and sluggish feel you may have in the first few hours of the day. Take one to two minutes completing stretches accompanied with some deep breaths in the morning and it will give you a tiny energy boost to get through the first few hours of the morning.
These are very simple suggestions; the key is regularly doing these activities. Coming from someone who has a hard time establishing new habits I would highly recommend these be done every day for the first two to three months. A good way to keep track progress is to make checks on a daily paper calendar or use an app that tracks daily habits on your phone. Once your tally starts building up you will want your streak of completing these exercises daily to keep going. I started seeing results from walking daily immediately after my first day and feeling generally calmer and less stressed 5 to 6 days into my daily walking streak.
